Fifth day of the month of Shrawan is celebrated as Nag-panchami. Nag means snake and Panchami means fifthday.
On this day one is not supposed to cut anything or fry anything on a tava. So in many houses steamed sweet dumplings namely Dind are made on this occasion. It is believed that Snake likes milk. So a kheer is also prepared for his Prasad. I made Dalia.
Dalia is cracked wheat.
1 cup Dalia
½ cup Jaggery
1.2 cup grated fresh Coconut
1 cup Milk
Some cashews for garnish
Cook Dalia in a pressure cooker for 3 whistles. Add coconut and jaggery, mix well. Add milk, let it boil. Remove from heat. Cool. Garnish with fried cashews. Serve.
